I call this my version of "Glamping" that's glamours and camping, for you newbies. I turned 41 in January and decided to usher in my birthday with four girlfriends at a beautiful log cabin in Traverse City. I know I am sounding terribly spoiled....but after I pull out that very old silver spoon from my mouth I will use my favorite line...."Don't judge me"....yes... I will be the first to admit that I am not some minimalist, get in touch with nature, kind of girl. My idea of communing with nature is rolling down the window of the air-conditioned SUV and looking at the woods.... NOT getting out and walking through them, for Gods sake . So, with that in mind we rented a beautiful log cabin in Traverse City, MI. Now, when I say beautiful I mean home and garden magazine, crazy, beautiful, champagne wishes and caviar dreams, freaking beautiful. This place was log cabin heaven and listen... I'm a tough sell... refer back to the silver spoon reference. We had a million dollar view and the house to match. Now, mix that with my best girlfriends and it was a slice of heaven. Before you all go on hating me too much, it was also...wait for it....affordable..GASP.... yes, I mean it. With all the beautiful places to travel it really isn't inexpensive for people to go to a slice of heaven with a million dollar view, now is it? We had a private chef, Shannon from Chow Bella Catering, come in and deliver us four days worth of meals that was so much food we had two days worth of meals when we came home. She made us four appetizers, crepes with fresh strawberry compote, salmon and asparagus, chicken in a mustard Dijon sauce and risotto, lasagna that would make Rachel Ray weep and of course a beautiful butter cream birthday cake. Ohhhh, I need to un-button my pants just typing that! Shannon did such an amazing job! Thank you Shannon! For the four days with five people, including food, we each spent $350 total. Now, that doesn't include the liquor but that was only about $5 a piece....Tee hee. Now, you can't beat that! Dennis, who owns this beautiful log cabin of perfection, was so kind and helpful with all of our questions and had stacks of wood for our roaring fireplace. He has, with his wife, decorated each inch of the cabin with the most unique antiques and cabinesque items that they have collected over the years. There is two fully restored wood canoes hanging from the ceiling, one with Christmas lights meticulously placed to define the outline of the canoe. He has everything from antique radios to a large model seaplane perched in the upper loft. Every detail has been seen to with to die for design flare. So, next time you think about getting away, go check out home away.com, look up your little slice of luxury and load up your BFF's for a little communing with nature. Or if you are near Michigan, call up my friend Dennis and pull up an Adirondack chair and glass of chardonnay and wave at nature for me.
Chin-chin nature!
So for my Ask Aimee review I give this a five shining silver spoons...yay Glamping!
